How to Add Images to Your LinkedIn Posts Using AI

LinkedIn posts with images get more impressions than text-only posts. But not all images work equally well. Here's how to choose images that fit the platform — and how AI can help you create them faster.

Why images matter on LinkedIn

LinkedIn's algorithm gives image posts more reach than plain text posts in most cases — particularly native images (uploaded directly, not shared from external links). Images also make your post more visible as someone scrolls through a busy feed.

That said, a bad image does more harm than no image. Generic stock photos, low-resolution images, and off-brand visuals make a professional post look sloppy.

What types of images work on LinkedIn

Custom quote graphics

A key line from your post styled as a branded graphic. Simple text on a clean background, your logo in the corner. These are easy to create and very effective because they reinforce your main point visually.

Data visualizations

If your post references a statistic or comparison, a simple chart or graphic makes the number more memorable. Keep it clean — one metric, large type, clear label.

Process diagrams

"Here are the 4 steps we use to onboard clients" is much easier to absorb as a visual step-by-step than as a numbered list in the caption. These perform very well on LinkedIn because they're shareable and save-worthy.

Behind-the-scenes photos

Real photos of your team, workspace, or work in progress outperform stock imagery almost every time. Authenticity is a differentiator on LinkedIn.

Carousels (document posts)

Multi-slide PDFs uploaded as document posts are one of the highest-engagement formats on LinkedIn. Each slide is a page; people swipe through. AI can help you outline the slide content; a designer or Canva template handles the visuals.

How to use AI for LinkedIn image content

Generate image prompts

Tools like Midjourney and Adobe Firefly generate images from text descriptions and are worth knowing for general image work — but they're standalone image generators. You still have to write the LinkedIn caption separately, and pull in your logo and brand colours yourself, since neither tool knows what your brand looks like.

Roosbot works differently because it generates the image and the caption in the same step, from your existing brand profile — so the graphic already uses your logo and colours, and the caption is written to match rather than bolted on afterward. For LinkedIn, whichever tool you use, be specific with the image brief: "clean, minimal graphic showing a laptop on a desk with text overlay — professional tone, blue and white color scheme."

Avoid prompts that produce busy, photorealistic images with multiple people — these often look generic and don't communicate anything specific about your brand.

Write captions that complement the image

The caption and image should reinforce each other. If the image shows step 1 of a process, the caption should explain why the process matters and what the outcome is — not describe what's in the image.

Generate carousel slide copy

For document posts, use AI to write the slide-by-slide content. Give it the topic and ask for 5–7 slides in a specific format: "Slide 1: headline, Slides 2–6: one tip per slide with a short explanation, Slide 7: CTA." The structure is easy for AI to execute well.

What to avoid

  • Generic stock photos (especially the ones everyone uses)
